So I've been lifting for 15+ years and have a great interest in trying to work into power lifting but I have no idea where to start. Can anybody point me in the right direction with regards to workouts or good power lifting boards. Thanks.

Here is one to start probably one of the best clubs around but not sure about the site as it's been a year or two since I visited.
Westside BarbellŪ"Often Imitated but never duplicated"

No shit!? Been reading his stuff in Powerlifting USA for years. He's known for some innovative ideas - althougth pretty unorthodox. I'd be interested in reading that info BJ. Thanks.

well just to be quick rt now... I aint saying all his methods are bunk cause they are not. I cant stand THE MAN. his speed training is bunk but some of his methods are productive (bands, chains, board presses, etc...) the MAN is a fraud because he takes credit for what his "trainees" do, once he got "known" every wanna be powerlifter in his area went to him. I wanna see him take someone from day 1 and change them and NOT take someone with a 560 bench and brag when the dude breaks 600. the BIGGEST way the man is a fraud though is when he said (paraphrasing) "all machines are garbage and worthless" i guess he meant until HE MADE ONE AND SELLS IT IN INFOMERCIALS LATE AT NIGHT!! I think he is cocky and arrogant. I dont like the MAN. I consider HIM to be a fraud. some of his methods do work though but most are NOT innovative at all. hell whats the diff between floor presses and any other partials? or board presses and any other partial? as you guys can see... I DONT LIKE LOUIE.

Here we go again BJ!
I actually got started training at Westside when I was 14-15. Louie is not a "fraud". I can agree that he cannot take credit for every lift that a person has performed.... but its really a case of the chicken vs the egg. Now sure Louie is in charge of "louie enterprises" and I cant really blame him for trying to make a buck (his old gym was the biggest dirtiest garage dump)..... but have u tried his reverse hyper? Its pretty dope. But the biggest issue I have with your post, is that Louie is one of the nicest and coolest guys I've ever had a chance to learn from. Have you met him? Spent any time with him? Gone to any of his seminars? He lives and breathes this shit, more than most. Now I've come and gone over the years, and I've seen a lot of idiots make their way thru his old gym and new one, but Louie has always been great. |

he is a liar and oppertunistic fraud. sorry. you cant deny his idiotic comments regarding machines and i have tried his worthless 'invention'. there is virtualy no diff in muscle recruitment between hypers and his 'invention' but before he could make money off the same fucking ex it was useless and worthless? not my words but the hypocrites words.

I made my own reverse hyper station... It works. lol. Took away alot of problems too. Maybe I should sell it. Nah.
He's impressive, but then again theres a bunch of guys who are impressive. I used to know Mike Miller and he's impressive as hell. And Ive seen him do over 1K. |

I like the Starr / Pendlay 5x5 periodized workouts covered discussed in detail at:
Bill Starr - Glenn Pendlay 5x5 - Periodized Version, Dual Factor Theory Just very solid approach - excellent base for powerlifting and strength building for football, hockey, wrestling, etc. Not to mention that most great BB'ers build their core physique with PL programs. |
