I'm now hitting my grove "naturally" and getting stronger with each passing week. So I go the gym and decide to back it down a little and go for less weight and more reps. I get up off the preacher bench and go the water fountain for a sip of water. Next thing I know I get this shooting pain in my lower back that cripples me and I'm laying on the gym floor for an hour and half. I wasn't even going apeshit on the weights and all the doc could tell me was it was probably bad body mechanics. The shit happens on Friday and I've been on the shelf. Start moving around and finally get on my feet and walking by Sunday. I go to work today and my Doc tells me he'll make me feel better. So I sit in the chair and get a corticoid steroid inj in my L5 and S1 to decrease the inflammation and he orders some MRI's of my C,T and L spine to rule out herniation and degenerative disk disease. I'm like damn all this hard work and I'm going lose my gains. But in hindsight I never knew that an injury like this would affect my ability to do all the routine things that we take for granted on a daily basis like bending over and tying my shoes. I just wanted to share this with the members. Even though we strive for different things with our training and we are stronger than the average joe we can sometimes forget how vulnerable we are. Be careful and stay safe....

Next to tooth aches and ear aches lower back pain is the worst. my L4 and L5 are both gone. Degenerated to nothing. I am to young to get back surgery IMO and I just deal with the pain when it comes. I wont' take pain medicine and haven't since I got off the shit. That was more miserable then anything. The doctor had me on percocets then dilaudid then methadone and coming off that shit was like no other experience i the world. I didn't sleep for a solid month and I was throwing up and shitting all day long and couldn't eat a f***ing thing. Irritable, nauscous, hot and cold at the same time if that makes sense, restless and every other bad feeling you can possible feel. It created the worst muscle and bone aches ever. I now know why people commit suicide when they are on or coming off of drugs. It is a feeling of not wanting to feel that way and it feels like everyday your not getting better. Then you finally get 20 minute of sleep and feel like it was for 2 days. I think the first time I slept is when I realized I was returning to a normal state. What ever you do don't star taking pain medicine. Just hang in there and stick it out. By the way after researching about the 3 different narcotics i was taking I come to learn that Methadone actually destroys the density of the bone. Basically rots your bones. I also now see why all the peopel on the Methadone pograms that hangout at the bus stops selling pills and stuff are all half cripple and have 3 or 4 teeth in there mouth. Stay strong bro and hang in there.Respectfully, Awakened

^ damn bro thats crazy. i had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out when i was 20, they were all impacted pretty bad so it was very painful afterwards. the doc put me on vicodin, he was like go straight to the drug store and get your scrip filled cause once the anesthesia wears off you're gonna be hurting. and he wasn't kidding that pain killed. i finished the whole bottle and all the refills in less then a month. thats like 90 pills in less then 30 days. and i remember when i stopped taking them i felt like shit. i had no energy or appetite and a hard time sleeping, nothing to your extent but it was something i would compare to a really bad flu. thats why now i'm with you and i don't take anything for pain except a tylenol or things like that, nothing narcotic.

That's rough man sorry to hear it - do you have any idea what may have caused it? Don't take this the wrong way but are you doing enough core training? Are you using good form? I know the doc said "bad mechanics" but wtf does that mean?

No one can answer wy or how to this type of problem. Was probably one thing or another like a deck of cards til one little thing made your nerve pull just enough to feel it. Post xray will be able to tell if there are things that can be done to help but thats not now. Hopefully the inj will be helpful but PT should be thought of also.

I'd like to thank everyone first and foremost for the support. It's pretty much what jdjack had said, "just getting a nerve pulled enough did it" I had my MRI's done this morning and got my prelimary results and fortunate for me it's not a damaged disk. I refuse to take pain medication because I know what road that leads too. It looks like plenty of rest for the next two weeks and wearing a back brace for additional support. What the doctor was assuming when he mentioned bad body mechanics was that I didn't maintain proper technique with my routines. He was very lucky I was hurting so bad or he would have ended up with some blunt force trauma to head for making an assumption like that. To be honest it isn't the healing time that's got me messed up - it will the psychological approach to hitting the steel because if you doubt that you can do the weight then you're already defeated before trying. This is something I'll have to get through and knowing I have members with continued support will make this a more tolerable situation. As always gentlemen stay safe....
