About an hour ago I got home and saw that my of package of L-leucine and taurine had arrived. I was slightly hungry, but not starving, so I decided to take 5g of leucine and 3g of taurine with cystal lite before fixing my dinner. About 20 minutes later and had wpi shake with 2 tbsp of sugar before eating chicken and rice.
Shortly after finishing my dinner, I began to get this very light headed and disoriented. I felt my self getting weak and I was going hypo quite fast. I fixed a quick whey shake and toss in 4 tbsp of table sugar. About 5 minutes later, I felt ok again. What the hell just happened??? I don't go hypo very easy, even if I'm slightly hungry. Did the aminos, leucine specifically drop my blood sugar? Maybe it was the whey shake, 2tbsp of sugar with the leucine that did this. I don't know, but it was a crazy ride there for a second. Ok did some research and it looks high dose of leucine taken in a semi-hungry state probably caused the bout of hypogylcemia. Tonight, I going to try only 2-3g and see what happens. I hope that shit don't happen again.
www.nutrous.com NOTES ON USAGE The branched-chain amino acids (BCAA's) are often supplemented together — 5 grams of leucine, 4 grams of valine, and 2 grams of isoleucine per day, although our requirements appear to vary depending on bodyweight. Many people fulfill their leucine needs with a quality whey protein product and supplement with the leucine metabolite HMB for muscle-performance benefits. Timing Typically, the BCAA's are supplemented in two doses, with one dose a half hour before training and another before sleep because of their potential to stimulate the release of growth hormone. Synergists of Leucine Leucine works with the branched-chain amino acids isoleucine and valine to make up about 35% of the amino acid content found in muscles. Many experts contend that it's important that these three amino acids be balanced. Safety of Leucine Extremely high amounts may result in symptoms of low blood sugar. Toxicity of Leucine No known toxicity. Bans and restrictions None reported.
