Sunday PM i did my shot. I did it in my left quad drew back and i got a sting that hurt like a bitch. I pulled out and it immediately bruised. I stuck it in a different area and by this time the needle was so fucking blunt that it felt like i was stabbing myself. I would have switched the pin but it was my last one. So here i am. It has no visual appearance of an infection just bruised. When you push down to the right of the area i injected it is tender. It doesnt really hurt unless i physically touch the area. i can feel swelling inside but im up in the air as to whether or not its just from pinning myself with a blunt ass fucking needle. It is also warm to the touch. Nothing is visible however except a bruise. I have ammox on hand im debating running it. Who has had an infection in their quad before?

I have... and it sucked.
Tough call but my rule of thumb is 5 days. If its still f'd up after 5 days, with little to no improvement, take your med. Yes, its arbitrary, but better safe than sorry. |

If you look closely the large bruise on top is the failed spot. The small one under it was where i ended up doing it. I never bruise when i inject. I usually switch pins after i draw out of the bottle but it was my last one. The two spots are 1/4 - 1/2 inch away from each other.

What formulation/brand of amoxicillin are you using?
Amoxicillin is a bacteriolytic with a limited range of effectiveness against gram-negative organisms and good effectiveness in a decent span of gram-positives. It's not a bad choice at all for the situation. You'll want clavulanic acid in the mix to improve your coverage; many formulations of amoxicillin include it already. |

Sounds like you could have hit a nerve dead on.
And Hannah, man, it's nice to have a scientist on board. |

I think you've just got a bruised up leg.
Keep an eye on it. In my experience, If it's an infection things will get progressively (and obviously) worse; i.e. swelling, expanding red patch, heat, and pain. My advice is to stop poking yourself with dull needles ![]() Ronn

Your picture is blurry, can't make it out, sounds as though you hit a nerve. I think you stated that it wenty in and when you asparated it stung. you must have pulled on a nerve. rule of thumb if you bail on an injection go to a completely different site, ie: other leg, etc. poking twice in an area that is disturbed, is not a good idea. I would take the advice given by all here, if it persists past 5 days with out some improvement, then go for some meds. I would maybe shoot Hannah a pm asking more about what would be your best answer for a med, though, she obvioulsy has extensive knowledge in this area..

Disclaimer: I am not a human medical doctor and even if I was, nobody can reliably diagnose a medical condition over the Internet and thereby prescribe a treatment. For all I know you could have a spreading cancer of the left testicle that antibiotics won't help. But following a basic protocol of simple antibiotic coverage with after a potentially infected puncture wound is not a bad idea. Amoxicillin is one of the drugs normally used for this purpose, and it's not at all unlikely that if you went to the ER for this condition, you'd be told the same thing and charged a stupid amount of money. How's the leg looking and feeling today? |
