Default Safest Diuretic....

Guys,

This will be my first show against some big boys........

I've just realized I've a severe problem and may be saying 'goodbye' to bodybuilding competitions.....

I am allergic to SULFA, and from what I've seen ALL diuretics are derivatives of sulfa. I nearly died when given an oral medication that contained sulfa as an infant.

My question....

Is there a diuretic that isn't derived from sulfa that I could use? Or is there one with a very very small amount of sulfa in it that may not hurt me????

I respond to gear like a freak.....I really hope that an allergy like this wont do me in.....

I've used NONE OF THESE. I'm merely supplying you with a place to start some research, and a starting place for others who may have first hand experience with these drugs.

Non-sulfa based agents might include some Potassium-Sparing Diuretics such as
1) Triamterene (Triamterene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
2) Spironolactone (Spironolactone--though - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I think it's anti-androgine effect probably rules this one out)
3) Amiloride (Amiloride - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
4) Ethacrynic acid (Ethacrynic acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

If someone has used any of these compounds, some N=1 input would be helpful for all of us.

Hope that helps

Ronn

Ronn,

Bro thanks a ton for these links. The only ones I've heard of above are Ethracrynic Acid I'm hoping I can find someone who has used this.

Also I should clarify, this is NOT my first show when I stated I'll be up against some big boys. I meant that this is the first show where I know diuretics will be necessary to keep up with the rest of them. I'm coming in as a light heavy this year. (I had to get REALLY FAT this off season to pack on this much muscle on this bulker.) I am about 5'6 and 215+ at the moment. Contest weight is in the mid 180's

Stuff like hydrochlorothiazide, which is comtained in dyazide, shouldnt be used by people with a sulfa allergy but usually things like lasix can be. It is a really tricky thing to get though. The sulfa allergy can be tough.
