This is from my own experience and I’m not a doctor. I do, however, feel that the expectation of sterility and the lack of use of antibiotics amongst those of us on the dark side has lead to more pain than necessary. I hope what I sahre can elevate some of that pain in the future.
Ok, disclaimer made. I have heard my share of horror stories regarding individuals spending time in the hospitals for infections, having minor surgery to remove abscess and the likes, and then these same individuals will call for blood from the source that sold them the contaminated gear. And whereas I do not wish to expound a source form the responsibility of making clean gear, the reality is they simply can not, and when we chose to buy from them we are taking a calculated risk. Without belaboring my point, I think we can all agree that any UG isn’t going to have the resources available to them that Merk (the original makers of clomid) or Upjohn posses. Even simple devices such as an autoclave are completely unknown in this world or underground chemistry (even though smaller units can be found for about 2 grand—easily within the reach of many UG labs). No matter how carefully these individuals operating a UG are, there is just too much un-automated, human contact with all the materials involved in a hygenically uncontrolled environment (and as far as I know, no UG does batch testing for contamination). Again, without belaboring my point, the argument that UG's are as hygienic a place to produce pharmaceuticals as Merk is, simply, ludicrous. If you used UGs, its simply a matter of time before you encounter a contaminated batch. And I’m sure there are those who will say, “I’ve been using for 20 years and never got an infection from bad gear.” To them I say you can consider yourself lucky or a statistical anomaly (however you view fate), but you are the exception that proves the rule. With that stated, it becomes merely common sense to have antibiotics on hand during any cycle. Most people who have has a “suspicious injection””; i.e. painful, occasionally burning, tend to wait, and wait, and wait in the hope it will go away. If your immune system is good and the contamination slight, you’ll beat it. Write it off an a reaction to the BA, bake it and inject again. You bodies now ready with antibodies, and the world is a fine place (unless you're body walls it off an creates an absess). On the other hand, it’s 48 hours later and the limb you’ve injected into still hurts. Though oddly enough the pain or burning seems to have traveled (usually in the direction of arterial flow), and this new area seems hot to the touch, and begins turning red. As the days pass, the redness and swelling increase until you panic and head to the doctor. At which point you might as well consign yourself to a hospital stay. But was this all necessary? No! BA is an alcohol, and as such tends to dissipate quickly in tissue. The sting of BA shouldn’t last more than a day. Likewise, if you’ve injected gear that was not solidly in suspension, the pain come as the ASS comes out of suspension and crystals form in the muscle. Ouch! But that pain is localized directly at the injection site, and even this pain should begin to diminish after about 48 hours. In you inject on Monday morning, and by Tuesday night you still have pain (or sometimes just burning), that seems to be traveling away from the injection sight, with any swelling or redness, you have an infection—and now is the time to act. My Anti-biotic of choice is Doxycycline Hyclate . I begin with a blousing does of 8 to 1000mgs. And then prepare yourself... I don’t’ care how much you’ve eaten, with a dose that size you have invited a pair of African rhino’s to cover a Rogers and Astaire swing number atop your bowels for the next hour—just enjoy the show. The initial blousing dose is follow with 400mgs every 4 hours (I take the blouse before bed then I start the 400mgs doses the next day—but this isn’t necessary). You should see improvement by this point—if not, you’ve got something really nasty, or a bacteria that isn’t responsive to cyclines. I want to emphasis this: you need to see some remission at this point. If you don’t, you’ve got to try another antibiotic or go to the doctor—NOW! Suck it up, tell him/her it was a b12 injection and get it taken care of. Ok, assuming you’re seeing results, the next day you’ll run the doxy at 600mgs daily (in 200mgs doses throughout the day) and maintain that for 3 days, then 400 for 3 days, then 200 for 3, then 100 for 3. And all should be fine. No need to see the doctor, no need for elaborate biopsies, and no need to kill your source. DO NOT CUT THE DOSAGE OF DOXY SHORT—enough said about idiots making drug resistant strains of bacteria. I’ve used Cephalexin once (just tried it as a matter of fact), after 24 hours at 2.5 grams with no remission of symptoms I switched to doxy. I won’t try it again. I’ve never tried Ampicillin. Again, I’m not excusing sources from being sterile, it just the common sense reality that they are not FDA approved labs—which is why were paying $40-50 for 10 ml rather than 10 times that amount. If you’ve had a good source and they give you a bum bottle, chalk it up to chance and have the common sense to solve the infection issue quickly on your own. If you get two bottles of shit—then it’s time to move on (and call them out, we need to know whose selling shit). I’m not a doctor, so take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt. This is what I’ve learned to be true for me in my time on the dark side. The antibiotics I’ve mentioned are readily available and at a reasonable price from CalVet Veterinary supplies and wholesale pet supplies online for dogs, cats and horses at calvetsupply.com! Hope this is of help, Ronn

Well I have to say up unitl this point I have had no problems with UG gear. I have yet to have an infection, and luckily I have direct access to numerous anti-biotics through a family member, and Dr. Friend.
Ronn do you use the vet grade anti's? I thought I read that is were you were getting them. Just curious, and what are the name brands. Thanks. Titan |

Titan,
Yes, vet grade. I use antibiotics from Thomas Laboratories (which is the brand carried by CalVet). I can actually get a 100 count cheaper from CalVet than I can from my health insurance (90 caps is $24--and that price only by mail order with a 2 week wait). I can get these from CalVet in about three days. Ronn

Hey Buds
Just another use for Doxy is for the STD's and Lyme Disease. A colleague of mine in Infectious Disease actually gives every member of her family and 30 treatment of Doxy every year during ticks season including the family dog. Just an FYI.
