Donating Member title?

I was asked by a member today if since he donated could he get the title Donating Member. My first thoughts about this are I don't want to give that special title because I think it gives a false sense of trust when just donating to a board doesnt say anything about someone other than theyre generous.....which is great on its own, but i'm afraid others will relate that to trustworthiness in a business transaction which could prove a foolish assumption with the wrong person.

What do the rest of you think, am I totally off base here?

I think with the way you have certain sections now you would be ok to do it b/c those that you are worring about abusing it, wouldnt be able to see that part of the board anyway.

In other words someone cant join, donate, get that title and be considered GTG in business transactions like before, b/c they dont have the access

I dont think donating needs to be put on display.
He knows he donated, you know he donated, and its really no one else's biz.

I agree totally. Why does it need to be acknowledged to the entire board. A simple PM thanking a donating member who understands it costs money to run this board should be more than enough. That reminds me, I need to look for the thread with instructions for such a cause.........

I agree with Quazi and Demonsweat,on the other hand people will want that title on their name which brings in more revenue! I really do not think it is going to matter one way or another.We all know who has been here and put the time in say from someone with 10 post and a donating sign above them!

Actually, that is a very good point.
It could generate more revenue for the board, if people start seeing
"donating member" next to peoples name.

back stage only covers vets though, and only the ones that anon is willing to move up which really narrows down the donor pool... IMO if someone is dumb enough to think that just b/c someone donated to A board that they can be trusted, thats there own stupidity for not doing there homework.

Its up to you. the positives are people will throw more money to the board the negatives are people will feel like they are buying status. But i dont see the big deal. The people that know whats going on will know all you have to do is donate to get the title so i doesnt mean shit and the xtra cash will benefit the board. I say make the minimum $100 dollars and put their name in a different color or some shit that will make people feel special.

I think it would help if the board needs money. It's not like you can buy your way too vet here. Maybe put some small restrictions on it, like time on account , post counts ect if need be.
