I have been sick the past couple of days. Nothing major...Just went to the doc and said it was sinus/cold...didnt really specify. Gave me an antibiotic and decong/antihistm.
Question is I feel okay. Just running a light fever. When can I start back training. I always hurd that as long as all your symptoms were above the neck line your okay to train but if its below then you shouldnt. Should I wait till my mild fever goes down (99.4)? |

That's a personal call in my opinion you have to listen to your body you'll know when it's time to hit the iron.

It's up to how you feel. It always makes me feel better to workout, but be careful not to push yourself too hard because it can actually make you feel much worse.

Thanks guys...fever was back to 100 last night...slept so so and temp when I woke up is slightly elevated. Working half a day then rest the rest of the weekend. I will try and get back in it Monday as long as no fever...when my fever goes up my body aches.
PS - my doc gave me this cough syrup that also has decongestent and antihist. and it makes me loopy...I hate that feeling. I am worthless with that crap inside me so I will just take that before bed. |

Often times the increased need for oxygen during exercise will force your respiratory system, specifically the nasal passages to dilate to allow more oxygen in to the body when it is under stress. If your symptoms were simply a head cold that usually means that the infection or bug is all ready working it's way out of your system and training is fine provided you respect the fact that you're body may still be less than 100% after fighting off the bug. I'm far from a doctor but this has been my experience over 17 years of resistance training/bodybuilding. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

Go and try to work out with the mind set that you're going to get through it and have a good workout anyways. If you feel too worn out to put forth a good effort on anything, then you shouldn't be there... go home and rest more.
In my experience, this is the best way to recover from a minor sickness because until you actually get in there you have no way of knowing for sure how it's gonna feel. At least you can feel good about the fact that you took the initiative to try to work out and are not just lazy (I have to convince myself of this every time), and that your body truly just needs more rest. Also, if you don't at least test the waters, you may take off more days than are really necessary.

I try to wait until I feel at least 75to 80% of mysel getting better. If it takes too long and I start to panic about losing muscle mass and gains. (usually 1 or 2 days) ha ha, I will go do some light stuff until I get back into the swing of things. Just being in the gym is important to maintaining the state of mind...

Just got back in gym today. Did some light legs and chest. Felt good. I am kicking my cough medicine it has codene in it and makes me worthless for a solid 24 hours after taking it. STill on antibiotic for 4 more days. Got back and abs tomorrow.
