Everytime I talk to a vet at my gym, and or anybody who has been in the sport of bodybuilding long enough, it never fails to surprise me, HOW many of us endure pain, some of which may be chronic, sore joints, tendinitis. As the years go by, whether you use ASS or not, we put lots of stress on our joints, tendons and ligaments, this of course, can cause great disconfort and can even affect (most cases will) our training routine and life styles.
Our hips, elbows, kneews and small joints of the hands are the ones usually affected because they are weight bearing joints. The pain in this joints is credited to cartilage damage, this of course is progressively acquired through all the years of training and because of the inability to restore the cartilage satisfactorily. There are several types of non-steroidal treatment that can be used to combat this pain, such as the use of aspirin, and anti-inflamatory drugs (such as VIOXX which work wonders, but are prescribed only) and also our good friend, iboprofen. This types of aids will only provide temporary help, so we still need to find a soluble permanent solution IMO. There is a natural substance found in high concentrations in our joint structures known as Glucosamine. Numerous double blind studies have shown that Glucosamine produces better results in the treatment of joint pain than traditional drug therapy. The main function of glucosamine is to stimulate the manufacture of substances necessary for joint repair. Glucosamine is a well tolerated, natural treatment. There have been no reported adverse reactions. In rare instances, some gastric discomfort was reported but was easily relieved by taking the supplement with food. I personally know of a few bros that have been taking glucosamine and, only after a couple of weeks of "treatment" they can reasume heavy weights and hard training. Never let pain that bothers you for more than a week or so unattended, as it could be the beginning of something painfully long. B2T4E
