I lift at PowerHouse, been at this one for about 6 months. There's always going to be someone that wants to stand around and look pretty at the gym no matter what age.

LMMFAO, LA Fitness, I hope you don't use the showers!!! I go to Worlds, where I live only twice a week to do legs and back as I don't have the equip for this at home ( bad back & need machines to get in legs/back) It is full of greys, gays, and little bunnies looking all pretty in the mirror, but the booty shorts are very good for my test levels, and I just ignore the 20'something kids with their puffed chests, and arms looking like a fledgling trying to fly for the first time..

I'm not here to defend these "fitness" centers because I love gyms with 150lb. dbs and such but since I work for planet fitness I do know why these places are set up the way they are and why they are successfull. I also have some bad news for you folks who are members at Gold's. If you haven't noticed already, the format at these gyms is changing to more of a ftness center and getting away from the BBers. Here's why;
1. society is living to an older age and a greater %of the society is becoming seniors. These people are now seeking to increase the quality of life through fitness.
That being, Gold's two closest competitors were Bally's and 24hr fitness. Bally's only has 1/2 the number of facilities as gold's but pulls in almost the ame amount of revenues!!!! Why? When gold's got bought by a company called Omega little while back, they analyzed this situation. At Bally's 70% of the members were seniors citizens or Newbies. At Gold's it was less than 20%. Omega saw where there opportunity to turn gold's around was. If you look at the gold's website, the old symbol of a BBer with the bar bending is miniscule. At the local gold's by me the sign out front barely says gold's but in big letters it reads"FAMLY FITNESS CENTER." You have n idea how many people thought it wasn't a gold's anymore.
For anyone on the east coast you guys should know of Bev Francis' gym in Long Island. It used tobe Gold's but when they were informed of the changes coming down the pipe she didn't renew her franchise. It's now a powerhouse gym.
Sorry to use up so much space in one thread but I wanted to provide some info on this issue. The answer is Money and the stats show these "fitness centers" make it quicker and more profitably than "hardcore" gyms.

Let me tell you one more story about planet fitness in particular. The original one in my area was previously a world's gym. During the late 80's-early 90's he had various pros visit his gym. He was a BBer in his youth and still carries some impressive size. Then Worlds got bought out by planet fitness and the owner stayed aboard. To make a long story short four years later he is opening his 4th PF in december and has announced the location for his 5th. Obviously this companies business plan works. However being the BBer I am I asked the owner if he would ever open up another hardcore gym and aftr he opened the second PF, ther were rumors he would open another world's. But now that he's going for club #5, his response was "it's not worth the headaches to open up another gym like that." I was very dissapointed because I was offered the chance to be a general manager a while back but wanted to hold off because I wanted to run the BB friendly gym. Gotta run guys, like I said I ain't defending these places just wanted to give some insite.
