I have been using it now for 2 weeks with INCREDIBLE results!!!
i take 500mg after a meal, 1000mg after a really heavy meal, and 1500mg after an all u can eat buffet. sorry for the cut and paste below, but it was also mention in MD this month as well, anyone else??? The main use for metformin is in the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2, especially when this accompanies obesity and insulin resistance. Metformin is the only anti-diabetic drug that has been proven to reduce the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, as shown in a large study of overweight patients with diabetes.[6] Unlike the other most-commonly prescribed oral diabetes drugs, the sulfonylureas, in general metformin monotherapy will not induce hypoglycemia.[7] Hypoglycemia during intense exercise has been documented, but is extremely rare.[8] |

I wanted to try it but I heard it's only effective over several months and can be liver toxic.
How can it be good for fatloss? It increases insulin sensitivity. Just wondering. I feel like I've researched it quite a bit, but wouldn't mind more info. With proper carb intake and timing, I feel safer with slin. Quote:

The way it would help for fat loss is that it makes your cells more receptive to the inslin alreay being produced or if injected, allowing you to use less and therefore lessen the need for overdoing your carb intake to counter act the possiblity of going hypo. this in turn would mean les chance of the excess carbs spilling over into fat. for endogenous insulin it means your boy will deal with you just ate more efficiently and there the same lessened chance of the carbs becoming fat.

I know a shop that has avandia, but not metformin. Avandia is like metformin, but there have been some deaths from it recently. So I'm pretty weary of it too.

Metformin is easy to obtain. If you wait 1 week I can get you some. My wife is type 2. She reups her prescription in a week. I use hers all the time. I'll send some to you no charge.

Thanks for the offer! I think I'm good for now. I did find info on it's use for fatloss in Chemical Muscle Enhancement
"During diet phases, bodybuilders have utilized Glucophage as a means of decreasing glucose production by the liver and glucose absorption by the intestines. This in itself decreases insulin secretion by the pancreas and increases the body's dependence upon fat stores for energy requirements. This was employed especially so during GH and PGF-2 use, and was synergistic with anabolic/androgenic steroids. SINCE cell insulin receptorsites are more sensitive and since there is an existing cross-over stimulation between IGF-1 and Insulin (and their opposing receptor-sites) lean mass retention was notably increased. This effect helped decrease the negative effects dieting has upon IGF-1 production endogenously" (Rea, p. 131).

I think its like anything else, there is always a risk but if you know what you are doing then that risk can be minimalized. For me any diabetic type of drug looks like poison. My father, two of his sisters, and my paternal grandmother are all insulin shooting diabetics. I am fortunately freaked out by this disease, and have been doing a pretty good job of managing my sugar intake for the last six years. I am now 28, and hope to avoid this disease all together.
