Default F250's First Powerlifting Meet

My training partner has conned me into lifting in a meet with him on December 1, in Beaumont, TX. Any insight into what to expect at your first meet, or any useful advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, does anyone have any experience using a doubly-ply poly shirt? I'm still getting used to mine, and it's causing some extreme pain in my biceps. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how did you get past it?

I will be competing at 198. I'm shooting for a 650 squat, 575 deadlift, and my bench is still up in the air. LOL

Any input is welcome.

Nothing like a powerlifting meet - especially your first one. I've been in many over the years from local to national and if there is one piece of advice I could give you it would be not to open too heavy in each of your lifts. As you know, you must get a least one good lift in for each event to complete the meet. Lots of guys open way too heavy and bomb out of the meet. It's one thing to get a lift in the gym and another to get a good one at a meet when there are 3 judges and countless people watching you. Look, this is your first meet - just relax, learn how the flow goes, and do the best you can. I'm not saying not to be competitve, I'm just saying learn from this one.

As far as lifting gear, I never liked the extremely tight bench shirts (but this is personal choice) - hell, these things are getting way out of hand in support. Unless you routinely train with one, it's very akward and changes your groove on the bench immensley.

Good luck!

Good luck and be sure to wait for the judges signals on each lift.As far as bench shirts go you really need to train with them to get used to them.We do alot of board presses with ours.

Thank you all very much! I appreciate all the support and encouragement!

IPL - I need to take you along as my personal cheer leader! Haha

South - We've been doing a lot of board presses! We're also deadlifting off a board. I hit a heavy single last night after pulling off the board for 5 weeks, and I pulled a PR.

Pwrlifter - The shirt does change the groove! It's still a very unatural movement to me. It's odd to touch the bar BELOW your chest and not to even be able to touch with 315...lol. I am heeding your advice and it's something I have already given a lot of thought to. I will go conservative on my openers for all three lifts. I want to get at lest one good lift in for each one, then I'll go balls out from there. Do you happen to know anything about this particular meet? It's an APF event.

Filthy, Kelly, thanks bros!

Fit, my bro! Thanks for always encouraging me and pushing me to better myself. I'm happy to call you a friend.

Bro,

APF is my personal favorite organization - but I'm not sure what you mean by if I know the particulars about the meet. I subscribe to Powerlifting USA magazine and I watch for local meets around me, and to be honest you and I are not that far apart looks like.

Anyway, go in their with a confident attitude and enjoy it. You def. have some impressive training poundages. I'm sure you're gonna do great. Let us know how you did brother!

KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!!
