I have a colum that is in my newletter for my practice and I have started comparing food in restuarants and fast food, as kind of defined in the title. Anyway I decided to share this info with all my friends here. Its good info to keep in mind so that if you eat out or fast food, you can still eat fairly healthy and not fall to far off your training diet.
Which Lone Star steakhouse combo is lower in calories? The steakhouse meal--bigger than your head! Despite the fact that one serving of meat is about 2-3 ounces, restaurants like Lone Star likes to serve portions that are up to six times that size. On their menu, both steaks and other meat specialties like chicken come with your choice of sides or salads. Here are two combos that you could easily make on your visit. The first contains a San Antonia Sirloin (4 serving's worth), Black Bean Soup and carbohydrate-rich Texas Rice. The second option includes a smaller meat serving (6 ounces of grilled chicken), which is a good sign, and it's paired with veggies--a baked potato and salad with Lite Italian dressing. Which of these combos is lower in both fat and calories? The Winner....San Antonio Sirlon with Black Bean Soup and Texas rice Surprised? While the Sirloin combo wins this fat & calorie battle, that doesn't mean it's a low-cal option. Here's how it breaks down: Sirloin (768 calories), Black Bean Soup (189 calories), and Texas Rice (80 calories) add up to 1,037 calories, 61.2 grams of fat, and 23.6 grams of saturated fat--more than 100% of your daily upper limit. And this is the lower calorie option of the two! While grilled chicken is a good choice (186 calories), these sides are not. The Baked Potato is likely loaded toppings, adding up to 663 calories, while the Lettuce Wedge salad boasts 507 calories (and an additional 50 for the dressing). This chicken combo fills you with 1,406 calories, 73 grams of fat, and 19.6 grams of saturated fat. Remember--even healthy-sounding options at restaurants aren't necessarily so. Here's the best option if you're watching your fat and calories: Grilled Chicken (186 calories) with Black Bean Soup (189 calories) and Steamed Vegetables (80 calories), adding up to 455 calories, 7.4 grams of fat, and 1.6 grams of saturated fat. Who says you can't get healthy restaurant food? You just have to know where to look. Stay Strong~~!!! IPL
