Cold medicine and pseudoephedrine

First, if I have posted this in the wrong section, please feel free to move it to the appropriate section. I'm kinda confused about this cold medicine law. Both Wal-Mart and Costco wanted me to sign a register to purchase some cold medicine with pseudoephedrine.

A while back, I bought some (real) ephedrine from a site (in another state) that required my ID. I didn't think anything of it as it was enough to last me a long time, and it was a while ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe ephedrine is better (stronger) than pseudoephedrine anyway.

My question is: are any of these registers reconciled? Does anyone look at the combined registers if I bought something at Wal-Mart, Costco, Longs, and maybe 10 other drug stores? What is the limit? Because I bought some today, does that mean I have to wait till (whenever) to buy the (real) ephedrine, if I decide to tomorrow?

I think it's a good law if indeed it is working and stopping the production of you-know-what. But if the registers are not combined, there is no real record.

And can't those that really want to get the key ingredients get it anyway? Why put the innocent person that just wants to buy cold medicine through all the horse pucky.

Ok, enough of my ranting, if anyone can enlighten me, I would appreciate it.

The people that want it for meth will always be able to get it. It's all scare tactics. Don't worry about it.
