Can someone explain Green Dot Payments and it's advantages or
disadvantages, thanks... also where do you go to do it?

Here is a quick rundown..


The GreenDot payment system is probably the BEST of all worlds, in particular for anonymity and cost for the customer, as well as for anonymity and convenience for the resourceful source.

GreenDot is a pre-paid credit card system generally set up for people with not so good credit, so they can have the convenience of credit card useage. They are self-funded, meaning that when you purchase the card, which is around $10 at many retailers (go to www.greendotonline.com for a list) you can also load funds onto that card at that time for use. Afterwards, you can go to these same retailers, and purchase Money Packs, to load onto your credit card, for around $5 each, and in around an hour, you can load these funds onto your credit card for use.

So, what's the good for those in THIS arena?

For the customer, it is a truely ANONYMOUS purchasing tool. Let's say you bought $350 worth of product from XYZ, who takes GreenDot. You go to Walgreen's, for example, and pick up a Money Pack (not the card pack, just a refill). The cost of the money pack is around $5, so we will use that figure. Then, you go to the register, and you give them $355. This is the $5 fee for the card, plus, you are loading $350 onto the money pack. They give you the money pack, and your receipt, which also has the info on it. It becomes active in about an hour. Go home, wait an hour or so, email XYZ and simply give him the money pack # and your shipping address. He loads the funds onto his card, tells you it's good to go, and you tear up and throw away the money pack. Simple.

Hang onto the money pack and receipt until the source lets you know that it loaded properly. On occasion, there is an issue loading, and sometimes calls must be made to get funds cleared. Rarely happens, but if it does, simply call the customer service number, tell them that you are trying to pay for an Ebay purchase with this money pack, and the seller cannot get it to load. It's been my experience that they will check the card, and fix the issue right there. If not, then see the source's area below for another option.

So, you actually have LESS info out than what you would if you were to use WU, and damn sure less $$. If your order was $1750, let's look at the financial end of it.

The GreenDot money packs have a limit of $500 on each. Now, with the figure we set earlier of $5 per money pack, let's look at it. You would have to have a total of 4 money packs to do this order. 3 of them would be maxed at $500, and the fourth would have $250. The total on fees on this for the money packs would be $20. Try to send a $1750 WU domestic for $20......LOL


For sources, GreenDot can be one of the most anonymous payment methods there is. No more send funds to "Ima Dickhead, Grand Island NY". All you do for GreenDot is once the customer says they choose the GreenDot payment system is tell them to send the loading number to your email. Once sent, you go to www.greendotonline.com and load the funds onto your card. Then, you mail product to the shipping addy they specified.

How does a source set up a GreenDot card? Here's how I did it.

You go to Walgreen's, Radio Shack, or wherever the GreenDot Pre-Paid Credit Cards are sold. They're sold right along side the money packs. The cost on these are $10. I got a Visa, as well as a MasterCard, and went to the register. I then paid for both, loaded $20 on each (I recommend $40 if you can), and went home. These are NOT the actual cards. Then, go home, go online to www.greendotonline.com and set up your cards. First, you have to give them information. Note I did not say YOUR information. These cards are not ran thru the credit bureaus, and are not set to report to any other agencies. I recommend using REAL information, though. Remember the extra $$ I said to load? Well, here's why. The standard accounts have a limit of $500. Larger orders will not qualify for this because either you will have to have enough cards to load the different money packs onto, or you will constantly be pulling money. If you run into the issue of a daily limit at an ATM, then you're stuck. With GreenDot, you have the option of a Premier account. For around $20, you can upgrade your card to a Premium account, which raises the limit of the card to $2500. I did that to BOTH cards, which gives me a limit of $5000 if needed.

When setting up the cards, set yourself with a PIN number, so you use the card as an ATM card. You lose a few $$ for fees, if you do not have access to the ATM system they have where if you're a Premium account holder, your transactions are FREE. Check the site to see if any are near you.

So, the source is no longer running from WU location to WU location. It can all be done without sending out any info for WU pickup, and issues can be addressed at home.

In the off chance that a source would have to call to get a payment cleared, you call the toll-free number, tell them that you were sent the number by family to help with expenses, and it will not load. You give them the loading number, and bam, they take care of you.

Overall, a great system that protects everyone. The info on the source's end is the real decision, but a resourceful source can use this without any compromise. PLEASE, if you have someone else's information on these cards, do not carry these cards around on a regular basis. That is the first of MANY issues that will start if it is noticed by LE.
