Ive been thinking about getting into powerlifting for a little while and have been looking at some different bench shirts. Im was just wondering what is a good beginner shirt to go with as there seem to be a ton of different options, single vs. multi ply, poly vs. denim, etc? I bench in the 350s raw with a slight arch, nothing ridiculous, just want a shirt that works with my style of lifting. Also, for I have been off for coming up on 6 months and will probably hop on cycle when I get a shirt. How should I account for sizing as I will probably blow up from a lean 225 to a big 230-240. thanks

Give Titan Fury a look. The F6 is designed for "arched" benchers. Since you have a slight arch I don't feel you'd need this one. I'd start with a Single Ply myself since you haven't used one before as there is a learning curve using them.

I say, stay away from monkey suits. If youre doing 350 now what satisfaction are you going to get buying one of those pieces of crap and doing a press you can not achieve without it. There are honorable raw powerlifting meets where a man is tested or woman on there own mettle and not what the newest monkeysuit can add. I remember seeing this 110 pound girl about 5 feet tall with a monkeysuit so tight her arms stuck out straight in front of her like she was a walking fucking zombie along with her elbows wrapped so tight I swear her hands were blue. She pressed 400lbs though with the most awkward and jerky form Ive ever seen. The crowd of monkeysuit lovers cheered as I threw up a little in my mouth.....

Not to discredit Raw lifts as they are a true test of strength. Equipped has their place in PLing as well. Some amazing strength in both disciplines.

Is there any actual benefit to these suits or are they just for the ego? They don't help you build muscle better than without do they? Are they just there so you can brag that you did "x" amount of weight?

They can build muscle (Well at least strength) cause you still have to lift the weight.

Actualy my friend its a proven fact that using wraps and suits can actualy weaken tendons if used to frequently. Also a Bro asked if Monkeysuits are just an ego thing. Let me ask you this question. A guy at the bar notices you got some size and asks, "Hey man, what do you bench"? In reality you can only bench 350. However with the MACH5-GOLDENMONKEYSUIT on you can jerk up 450 or hell even 500lbs, What do you tell him? I guess it depends weather a mans ego is paramount over his honor....

Oh boy the gear vs raw....lol
I also think they have there place. If you want to do a geared meet then shirt up. If not there is no real need. I am training raw right now and I am doing a raw bench meet dec 5th. For the same reason already listed. I have done 405 for a double raw, and benched an easy 550 in a meet. S&H
