L-cysteine supplements reduce DNA damage from overtraining.
Intense training cause an overproduction of free radicals that cancause muscle soreness,DNA damage and immune system breakdown.Free radicals are highly reactice chemicals produced naturally during metabolism.They are like biological rust that destroys carbohydrates,amino acids,fatty acids,and nucleotides(building blocks of DNA) Antioxidants such as glutathione and vitamins C & E,bind with free radicals to protect the cells from destruction. Greek researchers found that administering 500mg per day of L-cysteine supplements for 1 month to basketball players involved in forced training(intentional overtraining)resulted in higher antioxidant levels and less DNA damage than players given a placebo(fake supplement) L-cycteine may help protect cells from the destructive effects of overtraining and prevent DNA damage.
