I'm going to apologize ahead of time if this gets long winded but i know how people despise threads that are missing information.
I Want to compete in my state's competition in 2011. Yes this is a far off date but I'm the kind of person who likes to be prepared, i say this also because this is when i feel i will be ready to be on stage. Now... A little bit about my self. I am 6'9.. Yes I said it 6'9 I also weigh about 275.. For all of you that don't think tall men can BB just look at Noah Steere.. Also i am barely 23 years old and have been training for quite some time.. I am an ex college athlete and have been following DC training for a while now with great results. My body shape is very wide and tapered. I do dead lifts and squats and all the lifts that tall people generally stay away from.. Although i may not do the weight that my shorter counterparts may attempt i am making great improvements in all areas.. My weakest point i can see in me is my lats as well as my legs.. While i have great calves i have absolutely no ass or quads and my hamstrings are also not too bad.. I think all the years of running may have something to do with this. What i am looking to accomplish from this post is possibly any advice one may give me in aiding me through my quest to 2011... I truly am a student and honestly will do anything that will help me to my goal. So please i am open for criticism as well as encouragement. Thank you so much for everyones help.. Sorry if i left anything out..

WORKOUT, EAT, SLEEP, REPEAT.
I COME FROM THE SCHOOL OF THOUGHT THAT SAYS: YOUR NOT GOING TO NEED TO DO ANYTHING ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE REST OF US. IT WILL TAKE YOU A WHILE TO FILL OUT, BUT ITS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE, SKELETAL MUSCLE HYPERTOPHY'S WHETHER YOUR 5'1 OR 7'1. YOUR REALLY NOT AN ANOMALY, ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE A FEW ON ME, I TOO AM TALL, JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING AND IT WILL COME.

The toughest part for you generally I think is long joints beings so tall but you got a long time if that's when your goal is so I'd just do a lot of eating training and resting in that time span since naturally your prob going to be competing as a heavy weight now I don't know what you like at all some pics may help for further help on certain parts of you

if you're taller you're going to be heavier. that means needing more food than a midget like myself. nothing is different. workout, eat, sleep, repeat, just as stated above. genetics play a role but it comes down to hard work, having the money whatever you might need, and putting in the time. you can train 1000 different ways but consistent hours in the gym and eating and sleeping is all you need to know.
even if you're tall and skinny, short and fat, etc, etc, you can bodybuild. i know a guy who was very tall and skinny... lanky. now he's a mass monster and everyone thinks he's been "thick" his whole life. never, ever, let anyone tell you that you can't get big no matter you're build. you'll do it brother and i can't wait to watch you on stage!!!!!!! |

yea man im short as fuck, but the principals are the same... EAT EAT EAT, SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP, TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN... seriously at your weight and overall stature you're going to need to eat more than you think you do, and it might be hard to stomach all those calories some times. But just go and calculate the number of calories you need to hit every day and divide that up between 6-8 meals... if you need help on your diet let me know.. you learn a lot about diet and caloric intake when you lose almost 60lbs of chub in 6months lol

Tall people tend to use up more natural test then shorter individuals, just knowing the basics of the human anatomy I can say you'll have a hill to climb. You have basically the same muscle mass as someone who is 5'9 but your tendons are long as shit which might cause you to get hurt more easily than some one with shorter ones. I see a lot of tall big guys who are big as shit but the minute they jump of the gear they shrink at such an alarming rate that it doesn't even seem that they were ever on in the first place. I think your really going to have to focus on your diet. I would say speak to a dietican and nutritionist, get them to do the math for you even though they'll sit there and tell you that you are fine the way you are now.
My 2 cents shoalin |

It will be harder for you to fill out obviously, however when and if you do it is that much more impressive, if you had pictures that would help judge what all you need to improve etc...

good luck bro. I agree with all of the above. I am getting ready for my first show now which is in late May/early June (they haven't announced this year's date yet). The most important thing I can say is to try and keep an even keel, don't get too excited or to down, just get a blueprint for your training and your diet and follow it. My downfall in the past has been I would start out like a ball of fire but then get discouraged if I didn't feel the changes were coming fast enough etc. Then blow it all off. You have to settle in and realize it is a grind and there are going to be ups and downs both in your mental attitude and your physical performance in the gym. Just try to stay focused on the big picture and don't psych yourself out and get discouraged. I also hired an online trainer to guide me in my prep since it is my first time, I wanted to know just how much I should be eating, how heavy I should be going at a certain period out from my show. That kind of allows me to trust in someone who has done it before and keep me from second guessing myself so I can focus on the blueprint laid out for me.
I hope this helps, good luck. Feel free to PM me if you have an more questions that don't get answered in this thread. Peace, Max |
